2023 Plateau Guber Race: Kefiano Parleys NUJ Urged Citizens to Support Private Sector Expert

By Jerry Daman

As the general elections of 2023 approach, political permutations for party primaries are ramping up to determine who will carry the party’s flag for the Plateau State Gubernatorial Race to the exalted seat of power in the cozy serenity of Little Rayfield. Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, popularly known as Kefiano, an aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has parley with the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State Chapter to inform Plateau citizens about what to expect if they are elected, and urged them to try someone from the private sector, amongst other things.
Mr. Kefas urged Plateau State citizens to learn what these aspirants propose to bring to the table if given an opportunity to serve in any form, particularly as governor of Plateau State in 2023.
Mr. Kefas Wungak Ropshik said his call is based on the reality that “leadership has always been the state’s problem” at an interactive session with NUJ members at the Press Center in Jos on Monday, May 2, 2022.
“Leaders in Plateau State have given their best shots as governors,” Mr. Kefas says, “but this seat and position has been handled and treated as if it is for retirement, and this is very wrong,” adding that because it is treated as a retirement seat, “nothing new is brought on board other than salary payments,” despite the state’s vast human potential and solid mineral resources.
“The people of Plateau must make a good choice come 2023, to enable the state to emerge from its current sad situation,” he said, adding that “to add value to our revenue and development stride, the people must look to the private sector and get somebody who has done well in order to turn the state’s fortune around.” This is a fact: the entire globe is today run by the private sector.”
Kefiano asserted that his compassionate, humanitarian, and charitable personality stems from his humble and devout upbringing, as well as his late father’s Evangelist philosophy of life. “My father was an Evangelist, and he was always trying to influence people’s lives,” he stated. “I could see his enthusiasm. You should know that I, too, came from a poor family and, in comparison to my current situation, consider myself an opportunist.”
On the state’s security difficulties, he stated that security is his priority, and that if elected, he will interact properly with traditional institutions as well as community policing to reduce insecurity to the bare minimum in all areas of the state.
He also stated that traditional rulers acquire more intelligence than state and federal governments, and that he will use this advantage to develop traditional institutions in order to ensure proper security throughout the state.
He added that, in addition to arming traditional institutions with applicable policies, adequate funds must be made available for them to operate effectively in dealing with matters bordering on insecurity. According to him, engaging conventional institutions has become unavoidable now for the adequate security of people’s lives and property, as well as the rapid control of developing difficulties.
“Because traditional rulers are the ones who look after the people, traditional institutions cannot be left out of finding a long-term solution to security concerns.”
If given the opportunity to govern the state, the Governorship Aspirant added that he wants to be a role model for the Plateau’s youths, saying that leadership and wisdom are not governed by age. He also acknowledged that his philanthropic disposition speaks volumes for him, as his foundation reaches out to thousands of Nigerians.
“Looking at the demography of Plateau political history, it is occupied by the elder generation,” he says. It is past time to give young people a chance. “As a young man, I always hoped of living out that awful existence,” he added. As a result, when I see people in similar situations, I feel compelled to help them.”
“If given the opportunity to serve, I have a strong conviction and desire to lift Plateau out of poverty by identifying and engaging youths and women in entrepreneurship across the 17 LGAs, as leadership and governance is all about wealth creation and lifting people out of poverty.”
He refuted rumors that he is being bankroll by Governor Lalong, insisting that he is qualified to make his own decisions and that “no one is funding my campaign.” I have the ability and desire to change the narrative of governance in Plateau State through enhancing the inhabitants’ standard of living.
