2023: Muslim–Muslim Ticket To Continue in Kaduna, As APC Candidate Uba Sani, Picks El-Rafai’s Deputy as Running Mate



The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congressn (APC) in Kaduna,  Senator Uba Sani has picked governor Nasir El-Rufai’s deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe as his running mate for the upcoming 2023 gubernatorial elections in the state.

Sani who currently represents Kaduna Central senatorial district made this announcement on Monday night, July 4, 2022.

According to him, the decision was taken after consultations with critical stakeholders of the State.

Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe became the first female deputy-governor of Kaduna state after El-Rufai won his second term election as the state governor in 2019.

Sani said Balarabe has contributed to the “giant strides recorded by the Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s administration in infrastructure and human capital development”.

He went on “Dr. Balarabe has demonstrated hard work, punctuality, dedication and team spirit in the discharge of her responsibility as Deputy Governor which has endeared her to the critical stakeholders in the State. 

“I wish to therefore call on the good people of Kaduna State to support the choice of Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe as my running mate. I also enjoin them coming out en-masse to vote for our ticket during the forthcoming 2023 general election. Your mandate in 2023 will enable us to build a peaceful, prosperous, and greater Kaduna State.

“Together, we are determined to make the State a reference point for good and responsive governance,” Sani stated.

Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe became the first female deputy-governor of the state i n2019 after El-Rufai had won his second term bid as governor.

She had earlier declared her intention to become the next governor of the state under the APC before stepping down for Uba Sani, the anointed candidate of the sitting governor.

After stepping down, she was reported to have been offered to serve as Sani’s running mate, but she rejected the offer.

With the latest development, it is unknown if she will accept the offer.
