Lalong Promises to Complete Jos Stadium

Plateau Gov. Simon Lalong has restated his commitment to complete works at the Jos Stadium along Zaria road.

The governor stated this on Monday at the Tee-off of the Golf kitty at the Lamingo Golf Club, Jos, as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s independence day.

He said that the stadium was one of the legacies he would love to leave behind at the completion of his tenure.

He explained that the work on the stadium was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic challenges in the country.

He further explained that a new contractor for the project would be engaged to continue works for the completion.

“The new contractor has come to buy-off the debt and complete the Jos stadium.

“Am hoping in the next few weeks, we will be able to complete negotiations and take over the completion of the stadium,” he said.

Lalong assured Plateau people that his administration was determined to support sports development in the state, especially at the grassroots.

He described the golf tournament as the usual special kitty organised during independence day since the inception of his administration.

He said that the event would mark his last kitty as the governor of the state and hoped for its sustenance even after tenure.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the foundation of the 30,000 capacity stadium located at Zaria, Jos, was laid in 1988. It was designed to meet international standard and generate revenue for the state.
