Plateau State Still Remains The Home of Peace – Daniel Asama
Member representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Asama has urged Nigerians to stop the campaign of stereotyping and branding Plateau State as a conflict zone where only three Local Government Councils are affected.
He condemned reports filtering the airwaves describing Plateau State as a toga of insecurity that checks away potential investors owning to information available to the public domain.
According to him, the state still maintains its motor as, the” Home of Peace and Tourism” which cannot be changed despite the level of enemies of the state working hard to create fear and panic.
He explained further that we have 17 local governments and use because of two LGAs in the state which have security challenges to brand the State a conflict zone.
Hon. Asama stated this in an interview with Journalists in Jos during the World Press Freedom where he motivated and encouraged a Nail technician in her attempt to set a Guinness World Record while painting Nails for 72 hours on the 3rd of April 2024.
He said this is very annoying, to say the least when those not from Plateau state are talking about insecurity in the state when they have not even visited the state in their entire life.
He further asserted “Gov Mutfwang’s administration is trying its best when you talk about issues of security in the state and to be fair to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he is not looking the other way over the insecurity in the state as they are jointly doing things to mitigate every trouble in the state”.
He frowned at those fanning the ember of insecurity trumpet out of proportion and stressed that the state is made up of 17 local governments so the fact that 1 out of 2 local governments is currently grappling with Security should not mean the state is not secure for business.
Asama added that “However, Miss Lisha Seleme success story has just brought the state to the Guinness Book of Records because of her ingenuity in painting nails for 72 hours without harassment from insecurity is a pointer to the world that the state is conducive business contrary to what they are selling to the outside world.
“Our peace is relative and there is no absolute peace in any place in the world, the peace we are talking about is not the absence of peace or trouble, is the ability to maneuver the trouble,” he said.
He revealed that his first motion at the National Assembly was on security because I have to do that which is about community policing. After all, I come from the North Central of the country where insecurity is perceived to be pronounced.
He stressed that the National Assembly a few weeks back commenced debate on a community policing bill to see how we can mitigate the issue of insecurity in plateau state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
Hon. Asama added that members whose zones are mostly affected by security problems are not sleeping over the issue to see that the monster known as insecurity currently bedeviling the entire country is brought to a halt.
He further disclosed a plan of introducing many projects that would touch physical and infrastructural development in his Constituency.
