Grain Farmers Association Flags Off Sale of Improved Seedlings
The Grain Processors and Allied Farmers Association has flagged off sales of improved maize seedlings and other assorted farm inputs preparatory to the 2025 farming season.
Performing the flag off ceremony at the association's office in Langtang North, the Plateau State chairman of the association, who doubles as the National Vice President, Mr Naphtali Nankpak Tali, enjoined farmers to take advantage of the variety of services offered by the association in order to improve their farm yields, so as to curb the upsurge of food scarcity affecting a large chunk of Nigerian citizenry.
Speaking to the thunderous applause of farmers from various communities of Plateau state who had used the products in the previous farming season and attested to its efficacy, Mr Tali said his association will continue to help peasant farmers to break the circle of poverty through improved farm inputs that would guarantee bountiful harvest.
He said the NPK 15-15-15 variant of the association's fertilizer is the best that is available in the market, specifically formulated to suit our soil type. Likewise the chemicals and improved seedlings.
With a down payment of half the price of commodities acquired from the association, Mr Tali a farmer can be supplied his full purchase now, with the balance to be paid after harvest, and without any interest whatsoever on the outstanding balance.
According to him, even though the association is facing difficulties recouping outstanding balances from farmers who acquired their products in the previous farming season, they are not deterred from helping farmers to achieve greater success. He encouraged those owing to try and redeem their debts in order to avoid the embarrassment that would come along with engaging the law enforcement agencies to force them do the needful.
Testifying to the efficacy of the products, Mr Larry Lafat Domtur, the Mikang local government areas anchorman for the association said he used both the fertilizer and chemicals on his farm last season and the outcome was tremendously encouraging, thereby calling on other farmers to key into the benefits of using the products.
Mr Tali emphasized the need to maintain the prices of the fertilizer below thirty thousand Naira in order to keep the product within the purchasing power of peasant farmers. He said doing otherwise will defeat the essence of the association's mandate of ensuring food security in the country.
