The Jos Metropolitan Draft Club was on Sunday, 30th March, 2025, hosted a draft tournament in honor of Shabul Mazadu, the Publisher of The Beacon Newspaper who was awarded the Best Publisher of the Year 2024. The tournament brought together top players from across the state to compete for the coveted title of Metropolitan Best Player.
According to Pam Ayuba Bitrus, the current Plateau State draft champion, said the game of draft is not just a recreational activity, but also a platform for intellectual and social interaction. "We have a welfare system in place that considers the welfare of our members," Bitrus said. "We encourage socialization and healthy competition among players, and we're proud to have over 100 members." he added.
Isaac Musa, the coordinator of the tournament, explained that the event was organized to celebrate Shabul Mazadu's achievement as the best Publisher of the year being an active member of the club and to promote the game of draft in the state. "We chose players from all over the state to participate in the tournament, and we're excited to see the best players in action," he said.
Musa highlighted the benefits of playing draft, citing examples of prominent individuals who are members of the club. "Draft has brought a lot of people together, and it has even helped some of our members secure employment," he said.
Shabul Mazadu, the award-winning publisher, and publisher of the The Beacon Newspaper expressed his gratitude to the club for organizing the tournament in his honor. "I was surprised and elated by the gesture," he said. "I deeply appreciate them."

The tournament was covered by journalists, which Isaac Musa said had "gingered" the players and added to the excitement of the event.
In a show of appreciation, Mazadu's boss, Prof. Patrick Dakum, offered to buy drinks for the club members.
