SIL Nigeria Launches Journey and Joy of Generosity' Program to Foster a Culture of Giving

SIL Nigeria, a non-profit organization, has launched a program aimed at encouraging people to be generous in giving to meet the needs of their immediate communities. The program, called Journey and Joy of Generosity (JJOG), is being held for the first time in Nigeria, with facilitators from the United States, India, and Kenya.
According to Peter Nwufo, Partnership Director of SIL Nigeria, the program is designed to encourage people to go beyond themselves to reach out to the needy around them. "We want to remind people that giving is not just about how much you have, but about obeying God's command to share with others," Nwufo said.
He added that the program, which started last week in Jos, will also be held in Lagos and Abuja. Participants include church leaders, pastors, business professionals, and individuals from different walks of life.
Cynthia Wanyonyi, SIL staff from Nairobi, Kenya, emphasized that the program is not just for Christians, but for anyone who wants to learn about living a generous life. "We believe that giving is an act of obedience to God, and by giving to others, we're sharing God's love," Wanyonyi said.
Rev. Dr. Sylvester Dachomo, a participant at the program, praised the initiative, saying it has reminded him of the importance of generosity as a Christian. "This program has spurred me to do more than I've done in life," Dachomo said.
Dachomo advised the organizers to involve critical community stakeholders, such as traditional rulers and influencers, in the program to make it more impactful.
SIL Nigeria hopes that the program will inspire participants to practice generosity and make Nigeria a better place for everyone to live in.
The event is currently ongoing at Crispan Hotel and Suites, Rayfield road of Jos South LGA of Plateau state.
