Breaking: Trouble hits APC headquarters as N43 million cash ($75,000) disappears into thin wind at 2023 form sales point
The headquarters of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was thrown into confusion on Wednesday as a cash sum of N43 million reportedly disappeared into thin wind at the office premises.
The cash which was in dollars denomination totaled a sum of $75,000 and was suspected to be among the funds gathered by the party from the ongoing sales of forms for the 2023 elections.
According to reports, the canopy under which the sale of forms is taking place was suddenly dismantled without explanation after the money was discovered missing.
It was gathered that the sum of $75,000 went missing amid the crowded struggle at the main entrance to the party premises.
Party sources, however, disclosed to PUNCH that the missing money was in no way connected to the monies from sale of nomination and expression of interest forms as aspirants are expected to make deposits in the designated account numbers before picking up their forms at Buhari House.
“It’s actually $75,000. You know there was a struggle at the gate when aspirants and supporters were trying to get in.
“When the parcel of money dropped, it went missing in a flash. By the time security operatives were alerted the thief had vanished with the envelope,” the party source said.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the Secretariat had been a beehive of activities as aspirants trooped in to obtain forms for various electoral offices.
On the outside of Buhari House were hundreds of supporters lined up to cheer their respective aspirants as they made their way into the premises.
The whereabout of the $75,000 has not been known as at the time of filing this report with confusion and investigation around the lost money taking place simultaneously in the headquarters.
Reports have it that talks are underway by the APC leadership to relocate the form sales to a different venue where there will be enough space to accommodate aspirants and supporters.
Another important motive for seeking a relocation will be security as Wednesday’s theft incidence has shown how porous the security status of the APC headquarters could be.
