Karl Kumm University to Commence Academic Activities in Gindiri

The Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN has said plans have reached an advanced stage to commence academic activities of the Karl Kumm University, KKU at the COCIN Comprehensive College CCC Gindiri, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

President of the Church, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo said the move became necessary to help salvage the operational license of the KKU from revocation following the expiration of the six (6) months suspension slammed on the institution by the National Universities Commission, NUC sometimes last year.

Lightbearernews reports that the church leader explained that since he assumed office, he has set in motion machinery for dialogue with the hope of reaching a peaceful resolution with the aggrieved host community so that academic activities will resume at the permanent site in, Vom, Jos South LGA of Plateau State.

“We are commencing the second campus of the KKU in Gindiri to avoid further sanctions from the NUC and also to give room for further dialogue with the host community. This does not mean that COCIN has permanently moved the school from Vom but just so that we can wait for the outcome of the dialogue”, Rev. Dr. Mohzo said.
While addressing members at the just concluded 101st General Church Council (GCC) of the Church, Lightbearernews reports that the Vice Chancellor of KKU, Prof. Nanven Audu Gambo expressed sadness that the school gate has been under lock for almost one year stressing that locking the gate has made the institution to miss out on several golden opportunities with international partners.

“A university in Cyprus had written to us for linkage with the KKU but with a heavy heart, I had to write back to them that the university is yet to take off due to some lingering challenges. The continuous locking of the KKU gate is giving us a negative market as parents will start thinking the school environment is not conducive to keep their wards”, Prof. Nanven said.

He noted that many students have applied for admission into the University through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB in the last years and this year’s examinations but were not considered due to the situation on ground. He adworking the school is workinge towards the constitution of the KKU Senate which will give approval during the resource verification by the NUC and pave way for the approval of the programs to be run in the university.

The Vice Chancellor said renovation work has reached an advanced stage at the COCIN Comprehensive College, Gindiri which will serve as the second campus of the KKU while they await inspection by the NUC with the hope of taking off by September, 2022.
It could be recalled that the host community, Vwang had demonstrated at the KKU site over issues they said they have with the Church which led to the locking of the gate and subsequent suspension of the institution by the NUC.
