Plateau State APC Elders Advisory Council Political Development In The Ruling APC Government

The above subject matter refers.

We, the members of the above mentioned council have been observing with keen interest the political developments in Plateau State and have also paid more interest in the recent affairs of our Party. Even though arguably, much attention should not be paid to online post because of the abuse of its usage in recent time, we cannot help but be concerned about what we see and read on various social media platforms including some private and Government established media houses. Most of this reports are not just disturbing but also unhealthy to the popularity and growth of the present Government and also our Party by extension. We as elders sometimes get puzzled as to what to believe or not as pertaining the present situation of the Party. However, one thing that is certain and apparent to us is the tension already building up in the political arena.

CURRENT HAPPENINGS AND OBSERVATIONS.

The APC as a Party has come out with guidelines as to how its members are to conduct themselves in the forth coming primaries. We have noticed the following:
A. That a time table for the conduct of the Party primaries has been released.
B. Details of fees to be paid for the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for various Political seats has also been released. C. Presently, many people in Plateau State have paid for various forms. However, no one from Plateau State has paid for the Presidential Form as of today.
D. It is also clear that many Politicians have invested into the forth coming Election and are using their hard-earned resources.
E. The people of Plateau State are warming up excitedly to participate in the primaries. F. Sadly, it has also been observed in the past few days that the media is awash with reports of purported imposition of Candidates on the people which is contrary to the tenets of Democracy. This is also the position that has been getting the people of Plateau State agitated and also heating up the system unnecessary.

ELDERS CANDID ADVICE.

In view of the fact that we have reached this stage, that everyone is anticipating the primaries and also many individuals having paid for the expression of interest and nomination forms, for the various Political seats (Governorship, State House of Assembly, Federal House of Representatives and Senate). We strongly therefore, advice as follows:

1. All those who have paid for the forms be treated fairly and be given a level playing ground to participate, especially where there is more than one person contesting for a particular Political seat.
2. All aspirants running for various Political positions be allowed free access to all that is required for a free and fair election.
3. Where a consensus has been adopted, all the contestants must consent to same, by affixing their signatures on a document, which shall serve as evidence of accepting the outcome of such a consensus.
4. There should be no imposition of a candidate on the people. Rather, personal interest should be buried to allow the general welfare of Plateau project to excel.
5. it is also strongly advice that the Government and the Party leadership should ensure and create a level playing ground for fair participation of all aspirants, including the election of delegates at all level which should reflect true democracy.
6. Bad history should not be allowed to repeat itself on the Plateau.

CONCLUSION

The Elders Advisory Council of our beloved Party (APC) wish to state clearly and unequivocally that our interest is for a fair deal for every aspirant, a peaceful conduct of the elections, victory at the pools for the Party to enable it retain power and more profoundly, for crisis or any sought of violence capable of tempering with the fragile peace we are enjoying in the State to be avoided.
We the Elders wish all the contestant luck in the forth-coming primaries and the future Elections and Peaceful exercise without rancor, but it is our Prayer that the Right and Lucky Candidate should emerged.
