85 LABOUR PARTY DELEGATES ELECTED DR. PATRICK DAKUM TO FLY THE FLAG OF LABOUR PARTY.

 Eighty Five (85) delegates of the Labour Party Plateau State Chapter elected Dr. Patrick Sunday Dakum at Ken Palace Hotel, opposite the Plateau State Police officer mess , Tudun Wada,Jos on Friday 5th August, 2022 amidst pomp and peagentry.

The 85 delegates were from the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State who were invited by the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in the state,Mrs Grace Zamfara due to the notice of withdrawal and date of primaries written to INEC  dated 2nd August , 2022 in line with the 2022 Electoral Act . 

The letter to the Honourable Chairman of INEC signed by the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barr. Julius Abare and the National Secretary Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim listed the eleven States for Governorship Primary included Delta , Kano , Kaduna , Akwa Ibom , Cross Rivers , Kebbi , Plateau , Taraba , Zamfara , Lagos , Sokoto and Bauchi.

The States for House of Assembly Primary elections slated for Saturday 6th August, 2022 are Imo , Kaduna , Kogi , Kano , Lagos , Benue , Delta , Plateau , Osun , Kwara and Adamawa.

The LP Governorship primary elections started with the accreditation and clearance of the 85 delegates at the party office and the movement of the delegates to the venue of the election in buses.

The National officer sent to conduct the Primary Election, Comrade Joseph Ndirang read the letter from the National Secretariat directing that a Replacement Governorship Primary be conducted in Plateau and other states and asked the INEC officials present which form of elections they wanted , was it affirmation or balloting but they told the National officer to use whichever one the constitution of the party allows.

Ndirang in turn asked the accreditated delegates the form of election they wanted and they chorused affirmation thrice before the INEC,CSOs,security operatives and journalists.

 After putting the question to vote if they wanted Dr. Patrick Sunday Dakum to be the flag bearer and candidate of the LP in the 2023 Governorship elections for Plateau State and the chorused yes with their hands up.
 He then declared Dr. Patrick Sunday Dakum elected . The event was smooth,seamless,pomp and peagentry.

 In his acceptance speech after the elections, the governorship candidate,Dr Patrick Sunday Dakum promised to provide purposeful leadership with great responsibility for addressing the insecurity and other factors militating against the development of Plateau State.

Speaking to journalists after the elections, the LP Governorship Candidate said, based on the happening in Nigeria in general and Plateau State in particular, there is the need for a third force, a genuine political party with a purposeful agenda and programmes to salvage the country adding that a credible alternative with credible people has become critically imperative".

The Labour Party remains the only veritable political platform in the country today that puts people at the centre of its development plans. Others have circumvented democracy for their personal agenda. We are in Labour Party to turn around the fortune of Plateau State".

Dr Patrick Sunday Dakum promised to be at the vanguard of working hard for the success of the Obi/Datti team in the Presidential election.He said 
"I assure you that the vote you cast for Labour Party in all elections will not be in vain. You have sent me to the market and I will not return empty-handed.I have resolved to strengthen Labour Party in all the wards in Plateau State working with existing structures.The Labour Party Governorship replacement concluded with 2 powerful statements that:
1. Our labour will not be in vain as God will reward us with success
2. There is dignity in labour"

Earlier, the National officer of the party who supervised the primary election Comrade Joseph Ndirang told the delegates that though there was one aspirant in the primary, however, the party will not impose him on the party, which was why the affirmation was done in line with the party constitution and Electoral Act.His words “We are not going to impose anybody on you. So whoever the delegates affirm today will be our choice of Governorship,” he said.
