Kanam Youth Connect living in Jos Celebrate Maiden day Amid Fun and Fanfare



It was a melting point of culture and modernity as Kanam Youths of various ethnic extractions living in Jos celebrated the maiden edition of Kanam Youth Connect at
the Solomon Lar Amusement Park,Jos Nigeria on Sunday November 13, 2022 as Youths from the locality gathered to rub minds and to unite and to chart a way forward.


Convener of Kanam Youth Connect, Saminu Maigoro in disclosed that the purpose of the gathering was to interact and get to know each other better without political affiliations but simply as Kanam people as brothers and sisters noting that there are two ethnic groups in Kanam the Bogghom and the Jhar but that the “Youth Connect ” was designed for unity devoid of ethnic considerations and was intended as a kind of networking of Kanam people and that the Youths of kanam should see each other as one and as a United front observing that with oneness there will be exploitation of any group of people.


He said the days of rancour in Kanam were over judging from the attendance and the love shown by kanam indigenes to themselves at the event expressing his excitement at seeing people he had not seen for over seven years at the event.

He declared the maiden edition of Kanam Youth Connect a total success and promised that the next edition will be bigger and better.


Guest Speaker at the occasion Mr Bonkam Wuyep who is also the DG of the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency PLASMIDA speaking on the theme “Vocational Skills and Unity” advised the Youths to focus on entrepreneurship skills in order to become employers of labour instead of looking for the usual white collar jobs noting that the era of White collar jobs was fast becoming extinct and that vocational skills was central to the future development of the Youths and Nigeria in general.He observed that several people are not designed to work in formal environments but to be employers of labour he frowned at a situation where Vocational Skills are regarded as the preserve of the less privileged in society. Using Germany as an example which in the not too distant past was regarded as the “sick man of Europe” but is now an European power house of technology and development and urged the kanam Youths and Plateau Youths to learn from the German model in order to drive the industrialisation of Nigeria as a country.


Leading a high powered delegation to the event was a son of the soil and chairman of the occassion, Rt. Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi Member representing Pankshin,Kanke,Kanam(PKK) in the Federal House of Representatives and is also the Chairman House Committee on Navy.


Other notable dignitaries who graced the event include, Deputy Speaker Plateau state House of Assembly Shehu Yipmong, the All Progressives Congress(APC) Gubernatorial candidate for Plateau State Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Ambassador Chris Giwa the APC Senatorial candidate for Plateau North, Ibrahim Baba Hassan Member Plateau State House of Assembly representing Jos North/North and the APC candidate for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Mafeng Gwallson, the Executive Chairman of Riyom LGC, Commissioners, David Daser DG PICTDA, Deputy DG, Caleb Mutfwang Campaign team for Central Zone, Hon Ephraim Usman and Traditional Rulers amongst others where they gave goodwill message.
