By Shabul Mazadu
It's not yet uhuru for the Plateau State All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda and his party to feast comfortably over their victory at the Federal High in Jos, as the complainant, Dr. Sarpiya Dan Yaro is set to go for appeal at the Appellate Court, with the vow to exhaust all legal options in seeking redress to the shoddy APC governorship primary that denied him and others a level playing ground.
It would be recalled that after the May 2022 APC governorship primary in Plateau which was characterized by rowdiness, leading to protests by some of the governorship aspirants who walked out of the venue of the primary amidst commotion as nerves started flaying among aggrieved agents of the aspirants alleging that the poison of injustice was injected into the contest to forcefully favour Nentawe Yilwatda, the puppet of Governor Simon Lalong. Sarpiya headed to Federal High Court in Jos in a suit Sarpiya vs Nentawe & APC, seeking cancellation of the exercise.
After all submissions and hearing, Justice Dorcas Agishi of the Federal High Court, Jos, threw away the suit in her ruling saying Sarpiya has no Locos Standi to challenge the APC gubernatorial primary.
In her verdict, she said Sarpiya did not resign from his work thirty days before the primary, and that he withdrew from the contest. Furthermore she struck out the delegate primary issue which Sarpiya challenged saying he wasn't a delegate.
Responding to questions from newsmen after the court's verdict, Sarpiya's attorney, S.A. Abbah, said his client is proceeding to the court of Appeal to continue with his pursuit of justice.
Pundits following the case said the APC is still in a quagmire as the delegates case is still in court. And that it's too early for them to celebrate the victory.
