AYM Jos East Shere Jankasa, Helds Its 2023 New Year Festival Amidst Pomp and Pageantry

Every year, the good people of Jos East local Government Area of Plateau State, Shere Jankasa, has set aside 7th of January as its New Year festival. The aim of organizing the festival is to show gratitude to God almighty Whom have seen them all through to another new year.


The event took place at Zakim Primary School field, Shere Jankasa, area of Jos East local government, with various dance troops showcasing their original culture to thrilled the guests at the festival. 


Chairman of the occasion, is His Royal Highness, Rev Dr Isaac Azi Wakili, in attendance.

This year's festival is being chaired by Senator ID Gyang, who is ably represented by Hon. Izang Madaki, said the Senator is always having Jos East people at heart adding, "He always listen to our yearnings and aspiration and his doors are always open for the Afizeres'”. He added.



The event brought together all titled holders, men and women, sons and daughters of Afizere, politicians contesting for various offices from the major political parties on the Plateau, the All Progressive Congress APC, Labour Party LP, and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, as well as friends and well wishers of Afizeres' from near and beyond.

In his welcoming address during the occassion, the chairman Afizere Youth Movement (AYM) Hon. Bulus Sambo JP, thanked God for a successful journey through last year.



He said, "This is a yearly event that has been organised and celebrated to show gratitude to God Almighty for ushering us into every new year and to fellowship with beloved ones far and near, it has always been the display of cultural dancers, good will messages and other activities".


Hon. Bulus added that, “this time last year, the (AYM) appealed for a free will donation for the completion of three lock up shops to boost the economy of the community and to be a source of income to the movement. That is to tell you the Shops have been completed, we also thanked those who made a remarkable strides for AYM to achieved this project”.



On his part, the Vice Chancellor VC, Plateau State University Bokkos, Prof. Yohana Izam, in an interview with Journalists at the event said, " I am very grateful for 2023, many years ago, we shouldn't have this kind of celebration because of the tension and we are grateful that the APC government in Plateau State put in a lot of efforts and energy in the peace building process, you can see the relative peace came back to Plateau State". He said.


The executive chairman Jos East local government council, Hon. Yakubu Izang Ezekiel, appreciates the huge turnout for this year's celebration, and also appreciated Governor Lalong's Peace building effort adding “we thanked Governor Lalong  for making his promise fulfilled”.



The event also featured awards presentation to some personalities who have impacted positively to the development of the AYM, the recipients of the award were Distinguish Senator ID Gyang, Prof. Yohana Izam, Hon. Pastor Yakubu Ezekiel, Chief Princess Musa Itse and Hon. Markus Nyam Usaini respectively.
