African Drum Magazine Publisher, Adudu Congratulates Hon. Ashoms on his New Appointment, urges Him to be Fair for All

The Publisher/Editor-In-Chief, African Drum Magazine, Joeseph Adudu has congratulated the newly sworn-in Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Musa Ashoms on his appointment as Commissioner.

Chief Adudu urges him to evolve mechanisms ranging from public enlightenment and persuasive communication to building a mutually beneficial relationship between the government and the people.

In a congratulatory message signed and issued by the Publisher/Editor-In-Chief African Drum Magazine, Jos, Plateau State, Mr. Joseph A. Adudu, dated August 7, 2023, added that, “this is one of the most delicate and sensitive ministries and is also believed to be the fundamental platform for any reasonable government to tailor its agenda and programs to the people”.

He equally pointed out that the main reason for the ministry of information, to the best of his understanding, is to influence government policies adding; "Its commissioner should be capable of demonstrating one of the underlying purposes of public relations, which is preventing negative information against the government".

The seasoned journalist advised the Commissioner not to develop the habit of intimidation as a way of achieving his aims; adding that, he would spend most of his time fighting perceived enemies of the government and, by so doing, end up creating real "enemies rather than making friends, and the government would suffer for it". He said.

Adudu further admonished the Commissioner to apply diplomacy and a high level of understanding to enable him to engage in timely gathering and communication of information on government policies, programs, and activities towards building an enlightened citizenry and creating a feedback mechanism that would be beneficial to both the government and the people.

He noted that Hon. Ashoms should also develop an observant mind and a gift of application that rejects being diverted by pleasure or frivolous amusement, he must be resourceful, a good listener, courteous, and objective; above all, he must be calculative and possess enough self-control to resist the longing to speak before organizing his thought.

While congratulating the newly sworn in Commissioner, the Publisher prays that the Almighty God grants the Information Commissioner all that he needs to succeed in his new assignment, hoping that it also serves as a springboard to higher responsibility.
