Plateau Ministerial Slot: Group Jostle for Rufus Bature as Lalong's Replacement




A group under the aegis of Plateau Progressive Youths Forum, has expresses its unwavering support and passionate appeal for the consideration of Hon. Rufus Bature as a replacement of the Minister of Labor and Employment, following the recent declaration of the Minister of Labour & Employment, Rt Hon. Simon Bako Lalong as the duly elected Senator to represent the good people of Plateau Southern Senatorial District by the Apeal Court.

The group in a statement signed by the spokeperson, Hon. Solomon Samuel Badung, alias auta APC, and issued to The Age, indicates that, "Plateau North Senatorial district elections of 2019, Hon. Rufus Bature, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), demonstrated commendable resilience, by securing 171,233 votes amidst a closely contested race. This electoral performance, despite the challenges faced, underscores the widespread support and trust vested in Hon. Bature by the constituents".

The statement added, "historical context of Plateau State politics, notably the 1999 elections, illuminates the strategic political acumen of Hon. Rufus Bature. 
His victory into the House of Assembly during that period, representing Barkin Ladi, showcased his ability to navigate complex political landscapes and secure electoral victories even in the face of diverse voting patterns of the state".

"Furthermore, Hon. Bature's consistent contributions to the political success of the then All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), particularly in the House of Assembly where he presided as the minority leader,reflect his leadership qualities and effectiveness in representing the interests of the people.

The recent successes recorded by Hon. Rufus Bature, include his role as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Plateau State, which further attest to his experience, leadership, and ability to drive positive change in Plateau State".

With the 2023 general election results affirming Plateau State's electoral support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a total valid votes of over 307,195, it is evident that Hon. Rufus Bature played a pivotal role in the success of the general election that brought Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the president of the country.

The political dexterity displayed by Hon. Bature contributed significantly to the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in Plateau State.

Therefore, the Plateau Progressive Youths Forum urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider Hon. Rufus Bature as a Ministerial nominee from Plateau State to replace the party leader Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong who is set to join the National Assembly in no distant time barring any last minute changes.
His track record, commitment to public service, and ability to navigate the political landscape make him a suitable candidate for the crucial role of Minister of Labor and Employment.

The statement further added; "We believed that the appointment of Hon. Rufus Bature will not only be a testament to his dedication to public service but will also contribute to the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and prosperity of Plateau State and the Nation at large". The statement concluded.
