Anaguta Day: Embrace African Culture as a Unifying Factor – HoR Member Tells Africans



The Member House of Representative, representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Daniel Asama has underscores the importance of embracing the African culture as a means of identity and a unifying factor.

The law maker stated this in an interactive session with newsmen on Saturday, 8th June, 2024, at Rwang Pam Township Stadium, venue of the Annual Anaguta Cultural Day festival in Jos.

He said culture brings humanity together adding that the culture of an African race is amazing, the culture in Africa it entails the family as a unit and the family as extended.

Hon. Asama added: “You know very well that if you are in Africa and you grew up in Nigeria, especially from Plateau state and it happened to be in Abuja or in another state, when you see a brother who is a different tribe, but you lived together in the same state, you'll call him a brother and God has made us share a few things in common on the Plateau, we have common things we share especially our heritage in terms of marriages, interms of marketing, Commerce, Agriculture, and even worship. So I will tell you that I do not see anything that would have unites the people more than culture”.

Asama who said our African culture is mother of civilization which existed over a thousand years ago disclosed that before anything Western happened, the African culture existed years ago.

The lawmaker added that the Western culture was built with our cultures as a foundation but laments that it is unfortunate to see Africans embracing the West and refusing our own culture.

He reiterated that in African culture set up, everybody is for everyone, everything belongs to all of us, and it is all about the people.



He used the occasion to appreciate the Anaguta nation for sustaining a richly unique culture through various displays that shows the true black race culture.
