PLSG Bans Road Blockades by Churches, Mosques

Plateau state Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has issued a ban on road blockades by all religious centers in the state.

He said this directive aims to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure public safety.

In addition to the ban, the governor has mandated that all religious centers, including churches and mosques, provide building approvals issued by the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB). Non-compliance will result in penalties.

The directive was communicated through letters dated June 13, 2024, signed by Hart Bankat, General Manager of JMDB. The letters, which are part of the implementation of Executive Order 003 signed by Governor Mutfwang, were addressed to the state chairmen of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI).

Dr. Salim Musa Umar, state secretary of JNI, confirmed the receipt of the letter. The content of the letter emphasizes the need for religious centers to manage vehicular traffic and ensure proper parking arrangements.

“Following Executive Order 003 signed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang on March 1, 2024, for the control of building and vehicular traffic, I convey the ban on blockage of access roads. All worship centers should provide appropriate parking spaces off the main roads during worship times for their congregants,” the letter stated.

It further stressed the importance of obtaining building approvals from JMDB: “All worship centers should provide building approvals issued by JMDB to avoid penalties. The government solicits the support of spiritual leaders in advising their members to be law-abiding citizens and comply with the laid-down laws.”

The measure is part of the state government’s broader efforts to enhance urban management and ensure that public infrastructure is used efficiently and safely.
