Plateau LG Election: PLASIEC Engages Stakeholders at Local Government Level Towards Conduct of Forthcoming Election




The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission has begun its NEEDS Assessment tour of the Seventeen Local Government Areas preparatory to the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the State.

The visit is to ascertain the level of preparedness by the Commission in conducting a free transparent and credible local government polls.

Chairman of the Commission Plangji Cishak who led members to Headquaters of the various Local Governments stressed on the importance of maintaining a transparent and credible PLASIEC which will serve as a reference point to Plateau people and beyond.

Cishak particularly thanked Governor Caleb Mutfwang for carefully selecting members of the Commission and trusting them with the mandate to deliver in line with global best practices.

The PLASIEC boss disclosed that already the Commission is looking into amending the Plateau State Electoral Law. He added that Governor Mutfwang has graciously granted the members a free hand to operate without biases, as stipulated by law.

The Various Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen including that of Wase, Kanam , Langtang North and Langtang South, lauded the PLASIEC Chairman and his team, describing the visit as most necessary.

The visits also engaged stakeholders of the various Local Government Areas comprising of Traditional Rulers, Political Party leaders, Religious Leaders Civil Society Groups, as well as Security Agencies.

They all pledged their support and commitment to ensuring the Commission succeeds in the task ahead.

The visits continues with more Local Government Areas, Thursday.
