Gov Lalong as DG Reignites the APC

Image
By Yakubu Dati In less than 24 hours after his appointment as the Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Organization, the political stratosphere in Nigeria is already electrified. Few political events have excited the populace in recent times, like the reality of having Governor Simon Lalong leading the APC campaign trail ahead the 2023 general elections. The excitement reverberating in the APC over the choice of the governor as campaign DG proves that, not only has the party made the right choice, but that his appointment has added a lease of life to the APC behemoth.  As the new DG moved straight from the Presidential Villa, where he was unveiled to President Muhammadu Buhari by the trio of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Kashim Shetima and Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the presidential flagbearers and APC national chairman, respectively, to the warm embrace of well wishers in Jos who came out in their thousands across party lines to welcome him, it was obvious that the APC has

The former senator said this on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, while speaking with journalists after inaugurating an eight-member Abia Reconciliation Committee. He however urged party members to close ranks and work as a team to ensure victory in the 2023 general elections. “We have to do some work and forget some of the prejudices and stand together. We don’t want anybody to come here after the elections and start crying and laying blame on us for our failures. I will not listen to that. This is the time to unite. This is the time to work for unity. If we do, God will be with us,” said the APC chair. He said comprehensive meetings were held between the party’s leaders in Abia before inaugurating the committee. Adamu added that they were involved in negotiations and its National Working Commi

2023: Nentawe Remains APC's Bona fide Gubernatorial Candidate—Plateau APC Chapter

Image
26th July, 2022. APC PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER, KALWA HOUSE, YAKUBU GOWON WAY, JOS. DR NENTAWE YILWATDA REMAINS APC'S BONA FIDE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE. The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State has read and watched with keen interest all the hullabaloo about its gubernatorial candidate, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe who without mincing words remains the party's credible candidate of the 2023 general elections. The claims and counter claims about his candidature are distraction which the party seriously frowns at. Some of the claims and comments against his candidature are products of absurdity while others are mischievous and diversionary. Before now, the issue had been the laughable claim that the gubernatorial candidate had not been issued a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. This is base ignorance as INEC issues certificate of return only to candidates who have won an election conducted by it. Perhaps based on the morbid fear

The group under the aeges of Progressives Foundation Movement (PFM) maintained that the decision by the Sen Abdullahi Adamu led national working committee (NWC) to field Goshwe was in clear breach of the 1999 constitution and the Electoral Amendment Act 2022. The stakeholders led by Jacob Gyang, Elder Victor Useni and Musa Ardo, in a statement Tuesday in Abuja, said they are privy to credible information that Goshwe who served as Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was on the payroll of the University of Agriculture Makurdi long after the party membership register was closed. The stakeholders warned that the party may not have a valid candidate on the ballot at the poll if it remains adamant on the Goshwe candid

2023: Is Someone Afraid Of Dariye On The Plateau?

Image
by Golu Timothy Four good months after they were granted presidential pardon, former governors Joshua Dariye and Rev Jolly Nyame  are still in prison custody and no one is saying anything as to why. No explanation from those who made the pronouncement nor those responsible for executing it. The governments of the two states of Plateau and Taraba where the two hail from have also been loudly silent. What’s happening? Should they die in prison even after the president and his council of state have graciously shown them mercy? Are some people afraid of the two former governors? Though many other inmates are also involved,  the two key inmates of visible political status are Dariye and Nyame. Somebody seems to be afraid of the release of Dariye perhaps for political reasons and most obviously from within his own party, the APC. Despite the presidential pardon granted them and 160 other inmates on April 14, 2022, they are still in prison. The President, Muhammadu Buhari had announced the p

He speaks on various issues in this interview including the insecurity situation in the country. What will be the first challenge you would want to tackle in the state when you become the Governor? The issue of insecurity will be the first thing I would want to tackle as the governor of the state. The entire country is under siege with the recent attack on Kuje prison. In Plateau, despite all that the government has been saying about bringing peace, we all know that it’s a graveyard peace; particularly in Jos, where people hurry back to their homes when day gets dark. My priority will be how to rework the entire security system, and maximize the resources we have on ground to

He said, “The people we saw at the unveiling of Shettima paraded as Bishops are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear Bishop garments.
