Inaugurating the Committee in Ba'ap, the Council's headquarters, on Tuesday November 23, 2022, the Executive Chairman of the LGC Hon Ernest Abner Da'a charged them to to work assiduously on their mandate of sensitizing the public on the dangers of illicit drugs. 20 Year-Old Jos Resident Allegedly Commits Suicide, Police Begin Investigation

A 20-year-old man residing in Zololo community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has allegedly committed suicide, a development that has thrown the community into confusion. The deceased identified as Ibrahim Babangida committed suicide in his room on Sunday while contrary reports indicated that he was killed by an unidentified group suspected to be cultists. A source close to the scene of the incident said: “A 20-year-old boy named Ibrahim Babangida who resides at Majema by Zololo in Jos North Local Government today 20/11/2022 hanged himself in his family compound. “A resident of the area confirmed that when the incident occurred, the corpse of the victim was taken to the Police station, C Division and was later taken to Police headquarters. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Saturday again alleged that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Iyorchia Ayu pocketed funds realised by the party from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for primaries in May. FG Gets Another $20m Abacha Loot from US

The United States Department of Justice said it has transferred over $20.6m to the Federal Government in accordance with an August 23 agreement between the governments to repatriate assets stolen by late dictator, General Sani Abacha, and his co-conspirators. According to a statement published on the DoJ’s website on Thursday, the repatriation brings the total amount forfeited and returned by the US in this case to approximately $332.4m. In 2020, the department repatriated over $311.7m of the forfeited assets that had been located in the Bailiwick of Jersey. Last year, the United Kingdom enforced the US judgment against the additional $20.6m. 11 Year-old Girl Allegedly Tortured to Death in Jos

Margaret Joshua, an 11 years old girl has died in Jos as a result of alleged physical abuse by her guardian, Mrs. Nnaemaka Nwachuku, a Microbiologist who works with one of the Research Institutes in Vom, Jos South local Government Area of Plateau State. The victim is from Kebbi State and was fleeing from insecurity in her community before some supposed helper brought her to Jos to serve in the Nwachukwu’s home. The alleged abuser, a mother of two who did not enrol the victim in any school in the over one year that the girl had spent with them, rather indulged in the daily beating of the girl until she finally died as the result of the assault. It was gathered that after a recent beating, the girl was forced to sit in a container with hot water which burnt her buttocks and she died in the hospital on Monday. A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo has sacked Akanimo Udofia as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate of Akwa Ibom state. This is according to a ruling of Justice Agatha Okeke on Monday, November 14, 2022. The court also ordered the APC to conduct a fresh governorship primary election within 14 days. Okeke said that the APC governorship election committee violated provisions of the Electoral Act in conducting the primaries, saying that there was no evidence that the procedures adopted for the primaries were in line with the act. Gunmen have killed three people and destroyed property worth millions of naira in Makabat Batura District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias attacked the community through the hills in the area at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and molested residents, who were caught off guard and subjected to all manner of humiliation. A youth leader in the community who craved for anonymity said the attackers who had laid siege to the community killed a woman, her son, and another man in the village. AbdulRasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has appealed the contempt of court verdict handed down to him by the Abuja High Court. The EFCC boss disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists at the House of Representatives. Recall that the Court had ordered him to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility until he purges himself of the contempt. The Court gave the Judgment following the EFCC refusal to return N40 million and a Range Rover SUV to Director of Operations at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Rufus Ojuawo. “Having continued wilfully in disobedience to the order of this court, he should be committed to prison at Kuje Correctional Centre for his disobedience, and continued disobedience of the said order of court made on November 21st, 2018, until he purges himself of the contempt,” Justice Chizoba Orji had ordered. However, Bawa said the verdict has been appealed already.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, prohibited Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from paying visits to government houses and meeting politicians in their States of assignments. Qua'an Pan Local Government Council of Plateau State has recovered three of its vehicles from one of its former Chairmen, Hon Isaac Kyale Kwallu.
