Senator representing Plateau North at the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang has issued out letters of appointment to no fewer than 160 persons who will assist him carry out his legislative duties at a brief ceremony held at the Won Hotel in Trade Centre, Kuru, Jos South LGA. The Supreme Court has barred governors from dissolving democratically elected local government councils. The court ruled in a landmark judgement on Thursday, July 11, 2024, doing so amounts to a breach of the 1999 Constitution. The apex court said the defendants (governors) just wasted their time in the suit. In the suit filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Federal Government sought an order preventing the governors from arbitrarily dissolving democratically elected councils. The suit by the AGF was on 27 grounds. The 36 state governors, defendants in the suit, opposed the AGF for instituting the case. The Supreme Court, however, said the defendants (governors) just wasted their time in the suit. The highest court of the land also granted financial autonomy to the 774 local government councils in the country. Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Thursday held a productive meeting with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Abuja. The discussion focused on improving road infrastructure, health, education, and the agricultural sectors in the state. The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Dewan K. Gabriel led the newly sworn-in members of the 10th assembly for an induction workshop alongside Management Staff of the State Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria. The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission has begun its NEEDS Assessment tour of the Seventeen Local Government Areas preparatory to the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the State.  Plateau and Bayelsa state governments have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in power, renewable energy, and agricultural products sectors. According to a statement on Monday, the MoU was signed at the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) annual international business roundtable and Forbes Best of Africa Award ceremony.
